Vacation 2008 VideoThis year for Lynn’s birthday we decided to take a road trip to San Carlos, Sonora Mexico. Our road trip began from our home in Littleton Colorado and takes us through New Mexico, Arizona and Sonora Mexico. Along the way we stopped for a few days in Glendale Arizona and stayed with Lori and Greg, Lori is Lynn’s twin sister. The second part of our trip takes us into beautiful Mexico where waiting nationals greeted us with smiles and more courtesy than their New Mexico neighbors. The third portion of our trip takes us home back through Arizona, New Mexico and finally to our home in Colorful Colorado.
Day One
We start out on our adventure at 12:30pm Friday, February 15th 2008. We begin by heading east on C-470 soon after we hit I-25 and begin our five hour journey to Sante Fe, New Mexico. We arrive in Sante Fe just after 6pm and stop for dinner at Applebee’s. After dinner we continue driving for another couple hours towards our hotel for the evening a Holiday Inn in Grants, New Mexico.
The Holiday Inn was a decent place to stay, a nice pool, hot tub and free breakfast. The rooms were not up to par though; some attempts had been made to update them and failed. Our rooms cooling/heating system was loud and mostly useless. This hotel gets three peppers out of five possible.
Day Two
Day two begins with a stop for gas, don’t they all, and off we go headed west to Flagstaff on I-40. Overnight it had snowed a little bit in Grants New Mexico, but just a short while down I-40 the situation changed. Cars, trucks, minivans and yes us were sliding all over a poorly designed ice rink known as US I-40. We spent what seemed like an hour going less than 10 miles per hour, all the while watching side traffic. The kind of side traffic where people are standing around, scratching their head, wondering how they ended up in the ditch.
We arrive in Flagstaff Arizona safe and sound however and stop at the local Safeway store for Gas and Starbucks coffee. Flagstaff is a beautiful area of the country with rolling mountains, trees, a little snow and lots of friendly US citizens. Soon we are back on the road headed to Glendale Arizona.
We arrive in Glendale Arizona a little after 2pm on Saturday. We are greeted by Lynn’s twin Lori, Greg the husband and Stephen their youngest son. After unpacking our packed Acura RDX and getting a tour of the house we head out for an early dinner at a local Italian restaurant. We finish up the night with a quick run through of the local health food store where I pickup Bagels, eggs and Chorizo for breakfast. I love to cook; it is my outlet and inspiration place.
